Project Unpackings provide an in-depth exploration of project design. Oscar Carrion, 10th grade Humanities educator at High Tech High Mesa will co-facilitate an interactive storytelling of the project OffBeat Productions Music Festival. We will focus intentionally on two essential components of Project-based learning. This event is highly participatory and uses storytelling, reflection, and dialogue to learn deeply together.
Offbeat Music Festival Project Description
Music has inherently been a communal experience, whether it be jamming with friends, playing a piano recital, meeting new folks at a local show, or spitting knowledge for a stadium full of fans. Why is it that this phenomenon brings people of all walks of life together? In this project we looked at the properties of this universal language through a humanitarian and scientific lens to see how exactly it shapes us as a society, as a community, and as individuals. While mainstream media focuses on what divides us, music stands strong across cultures and generations, bringing people of all walks of life together. The project culminated in a youth-designed and youth-produced music festival at the historic Che Cafe.
