What do you get when first graders take on the challenge of redesigning a shark exhibit? A fintastic adventure in learning! In this interactive session, join first grade educator Jamelle Jones of High Tech Elementary North County as she shares the “Fintastic First Grade Shark Mission,” where students partnered with LEGOLAND’s SEA LIFE Aquarium to redesign their shark exhibit.

You’ll explore how authentic community collaborations help young learners build foundational skills while seeing their work make a meaningful impact. Together, we’ll unpack practical strategies for integrating core content and partnering with community members to create joyful, purposeful, developmentally appropriate PBL experiences in the early grades.

Project Unpacking workshops are an in-depth exploration of structures used to design for deeper learning. Each session is facilitated by a HTH educator and focuses on one or more of the PBL Essentials. This interactive workshop invites participants to design, discuss, and reflect. Project Unpackings welcome new and experienced educators.
