Jamie has returned to DC after six years studying, building, and leading innovative schools in California. She completed a school leadership residency at High Tech High and moved on to direct learner-centered charter schools in San Diego. The charter network was recognized by Tom Vander Ark(Getting Smart) as one the 75 Top School and Charter Networks in the U.S. Most recently, Jamie worked with district leaders to design and execute change initiatives. During that time, she co-authored a report on personalized learning and a framework on teaching for equity. She also facilitates national summits on equity in ELA and teaching for engaging, affirming, and meaningful student experiences. During her time with DC Public Schools, Jamie led a team of literacy consultants in a grant-funded literacy initiative. The project resulted in gains significantly outpacing district averages and served as a model for subsequent district leadership initiatives. Jamie has lived in Nashville, where she earned a B.A from Vanderbilt University, and Venezuela, where she completed her first teaching assignment.
