[MUSIC PLAYING] In 2000, High Tech High began in the beginning of its becoming a K-12 set of public schools. We have now grown, at the time of this filming, to 13 schools with 7,000 students and about 680 employees. About eight or nine years ago, we had this realization-- why don't we prepare the people who come to our schools with master's degrees and a grad school of education that is embedded within our K-12 schools. The Graduate School of Education is embedded in High Tech High schools, which were founded on four design principles. Equity first and foremost, personalization, authentic work, and collaborative design. The graduate school has the unique advantage of being embedded in schools that align to theory we explore through the graduate school, which then educators have the opportunity to practice in their school settings. High Tech High schools are often held up as a model, while we see them as an example of educators focused on equity, deeper learning, and shared leadership to guide school change. They provide inspiration and are not seen as a source for replication for the educators we work with. One feature of the work that we're doing is to look for ways to continuously improve our practices, and use data and be systematic in how we are studying our work, so we can figure out what's most effective. Each year, over 5,000 educators visit our schools and spend time with the GSE, either through the master's program, resonances, Deeper Learning conference, High Tech High on the Road, or work through our research center on equity and innovation. Often educators are struck by the culture in our schools. The deep relationships that students form with each other and form with adults in the building, and also the sense of joy and purpose in schools. We work with educators to re-imagine how the structures and design of a school can support deep learning for both students and adults. Through the GSE, educators often reconnect to their purpose, hone their vision for teaching learning and leadership in schools, and re-imagine what's possible. Whether you visit for a day, a week, or a year, our aspiration is that you will be learning deeply by being fully embedded within our K-12 schools. [MUSIC PLAYING]
