The master's in educational leadership is offered as a two year part time program for working professionals. There is a one year full time program with an embedded residency in one of the 13 high tech high schools. All graduate students learn by doing and have projects that allow them to personalize their experience to authentically practice leadership and reflect on network in schools, and be transformed by the experience. One of the great things about the Graduate School of Education is that it's really tailored to whatever it is that you are interested in. The instructors are really intentional about making sure that you are getting what you need out of the class. Based off of your interests, things that would affect your kids and your demographics you currently are in or previously in. The masters in educational leadership is designed for teacher leaders, aspiring school leaders, and educators who wish to open and found new and innovative schools focused on equity and deeper learning. Where you say your true and what your hopes and aspirations are, but then how do you create space for other people to do the same thing? I found that the balance of theory and practice helped me get rooted in theory, but really apply it to my individual school. Being a resident and doing this as in one year full time. It wouldn't have been the same if I wasn't embedded in the high tech middle school. Our hope is that what the residents get from being embedded in a school is that they're allowed to build relationships and fully understand a school context, so that they can contribute in meaningful ways. For me my master's project was focused on increasing student voice, but it is also really a personal project for me. Because I feel like in the last few years as a teacher, I was not doing enough. So I felt like this was my year to experiment, and try out new things, and learn about what are the things you need to do to truly engage student voice in your classroom. As an alumni of the M.Ed program myself, I had a truly transformative learning experience as I took on a new leadership role for the network of high tech high charter schools. And similarly, I aspire to create learning environments for our current M.Ed students. And empower them to really shift the way they perceive themselves to develop new agency as leaders within their school contexts. I learned so much about how important culture is in relationships when you're talking about making changes and doing school improvement. As the creator of a brand new school the High Tech High Graduate School of Education prepared me to build an innovative program from scratch. To support teachers and support and engage in curriculum.
