Financial Aid & Funding
Graduate students are eligible to apply for federal financial aid and can indicate interest in receiving available fellowship funding through the application process.
Cost of Attendance
The HTH GSE provides the following cost of attendance as an estimate of expenses. It includes direct educational costs for tuition and estimated standard expenses such as housing, food, and personal expenses. Some figures are taken from the California Student Aid Commission student expense budget. For questions regarding the cost of attendance and/or federal student aid, please contact admissions@hthgse.edu.
Students may opt into a monthly payment plan for tuition to pay via check or credit card. Students are also eligible to apply for federal student aid, or use Americorps or other college savings plan funding that can be applied directly to tuition accounts.

Federal Student Aid
Apply for Loans via FAFSA
M.Ed. students are eligible to apply for federal financial aid. The aid available to HTH GSE students consists primarily of William D. Ford Federal Direct Loans (Unsubsidized), Federal Graduate PLUS Loans, and Federal Work Study. Degree-seeking graduate students are eligible for federal financial aid if they:
- are enrolled in 4.5 or more units per term
- meet the HTH GSE’s Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) policy
- are in good standing with prior federal loans
- are citizens of the United States (or are eligible non-citizens)
Prospective candidates can expect to learn more about their financial aid and tuition options with their offer of admission. Qualifying graduate students may be eligible to borrow up to $20,500 per year, depending on the student’s calculated cost of attendance.
Student aid is applied to your tuition account upon enrollment. If you request additional funding for your educational expenses, loans are disbursed according to the three academic terms: fall term by mid-August, winter term by early December, and spring term by mid-March.
If you are interested in applying for aid, please complete the steps below by May 1.
Step 1: Complete the FAFSA
- Visit www.fafsa.gov
- Create a FAFSA ID or log in with your existing ID
- HTH GSE’s school code: G42174
Step 2: Complete online entrance counseling
- Visit www.studentloans.gov, log in, and select “Complete Entrance Counseling”
- Be sure to select the “graduate” type
- Complete the tutorial
Step 3: Sign Master Promissory Note (MPN)
- Visit www.studentloans.gov, log in, and select “Complete Master Promissory Note”
- Choose the “Subsidized/Unsubsidized” option
- Review and sign the document
Step 4: Notify HTH GSE
- Notify Anna Champion, achampion@hthgse.edu that you have applied for financial aid with the following details:
- Program you are enrolled in
- Amount of unsubsidized loans you are interested in receiving.
Educational Benefits for Veterans
HTH GSE is approved through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to accept Title 38 benefits for veterans and eligible students. Eligible students need to provide the GSE Program Office with a VA Certificate of Eligibility to receive available benefits.
