PBL
Design Camp
Join us for a multi-day workshop where you will learn to navigate the PBL design process and create transformative learning experiences for students. Facilitators model Social Emotional Learning (SEL) strategies foundational to the PBL classroom. Each day participants will be immersed in the HTH environment, where they will have access to examples of equity-focused and culturally responsive project design. Through this experience, participants will see young people as partners in this work. Our team will support you in using the Kaleidoscope framework for deeper learning to enhance your PBL lesson plans.
Spend three days in San Diego developing your PBL skills alongside HTH teachers and students.

Unfortunately, we will not be out in nature or under the stars although we highly encourage imagination and curiosity throughout this workshop. In the spirit of camp, we will send you a welcome box with goodies and a workbook to support your full participation. You will need a trusty computer and stable internet.
Two Continuing Education Units are available considering this workshop is approximately 20 hours of learning. There are 12 hours of synchronous hands-on/minds-on sessions, four hours of recommended Co-Design Office hours and four hours of asynchronous work to prepare for each session.
All sessions will be hosted on Zoom. We will be modeling the use of three EdTech tools commonly used for collaboration: Miro, Flipgrid, and Mentimeter. Two weeks prior to PBL Design Camp we will host a Session 0: EdTech to get you started on these applications.

While we encourage you to participate in a session that hosts people from all over the world, if you are interested in having PBL Design Camp just for your group, please contact Kali Frederick at kfrederick@hthgse.edu.
Unfortunately, missing one or more sessions can curtail your understanding and progress in designing a project within this workshop. All sessions build upon one another in resources and understanding of how to use the design process to design projects for and with students.
Even if you have never done Project Based Learning or have designed several projects, this workshop is for you. Our facilitation is grounded in building from our collective knowledge of transformative learning experiences.
No, you do not need a group. The activities in camp are intentionally designed to support individual participants to design a project. Even if you come with a group, we encourage you to collaborate with others. Based on research about the creative process, the more diverse perspectives that are brought to the design process, the stronger the project design will be.
Absolutely! We intentionally create mixed pairings of participants for discussion and activities. For organizations with multiple participants, we encourage these to use the Co-Design Office Hours on Tuesday and Thursday to connect and collaborate on project designs.
