Mathematics and growing up in Hawai’i have always shaped and informed how I interact with the world. The desire to connect with others through mathematics brought me to High Tech High Media Arts, where I have been teaching for the past 14 years. I approach learning mathematics with my students by looking at local and global communities with a mathematical lens. From incorporating place-based learning and the social sciences into mathematics, I seek to create learning experiences with my students that allow them to be empowered by mathematics to create social change. I hold a B.S. in Mathematics from Harvey Mudd College, an M.Ed. in Teaching and Learning from U.C. Santa Barbara, and an M.Ed. in Educational Leadership from the High Tech High GSE. As a lover of learning, I will be the first to say, “I don’t know yet, but I’m working on it.” I strive to create meaningful experiences with all students and adults so that they may connect and influence each other in life and in learning.
