A Ph.D. student at The University of California, San Diego in the Education Studies Department, John's research focuses on issues of equity within education policy, critical approaches to school finance, and culturally responsive and equitable systems development. In addition to his graduate studies, John also provides financial technical assistance to state and local education agencies as an analyst with WestEd, where he has served for the past 4 years as a member of the Culturally Responsive Systems Content Area and as staff for both the Region 13 and Region 15 comprehensive centers. Prior to joining WestEd, John served as a policy analyst for the Los Angeles Unified School District Board of Education, where he led independent analysis and reporting to the board on district budget and state finance development. He has also served as a research assistant for the University of Southern California Rossier School of Education. John holds a B.A. in Social Psychology from Azusa Pacific University, an M.P.A. from the University of Southern California, and received his certificate in Education Finance from Georgetown University.
