The Inner Warrior Project, the first project to kick off the semester in multimedia, was inspired by a local ad campaign. Students watched a promotional video featuring interviews of activitists, self proclaimed ‘warriors’, who were from the San Diego community. After determining what warrior-like traits the activists had, each student was to come up with a list of their own warrior-like traits. The students wrote blog posts about what makes them a warrior in their home, as a family member, in school, as a student and learner, with their sports team, at their job, etc. The traits that make them who they are, their interests, their passions and all the qualities they wanted to share about themselves were then translated from writing to visual art in the form of either a mask or a head dress. Through this project students learned how to combine traditional and digital media using Photoshop. They also learned how to conceptualize their ideas about themselves and turn them into works of art. Finally, students were able to learn more about themselves and each other by presenting their projects.
