Redwood Coast Montessori, a K-12 public Montessori charter school located in Arcata, CA, is seeking a high school biology/chemistry teacher to join our staff in building a dynamic, tight knit PBL learning community. Located in a coastal ecosystem along Humboldt Bay in northern Humboldt County, this unique environment contains incredible beauty and outstanding opportunities for outdoor educational activities. The ideal candidate will possess: 1) Bachelor’s degree, 2) PBL training or experience, 3) California teaching credential, 4) minimum of 1 year of experience working with students in grades 9-12, and 5) ability to collaborate with peers and to take a leadership role when needed Qualified applicants should have a good understanding of their subject area, strong classroom management skills, a passion for teaching with a focus on project based learning in an academically rigorous environment.

Position Description/Qualifications:

• Contribute to and support the development of RCM to promote an inclusive and respectful community
• Work to help plan, develop, and refine PBL aligned curriculum and a school-wide scope and sequence that addresses both Common Core Standards, locally relevant topics/content, and motivates student learning
• Support student growth including academic and social responsibility and accountability
• Utilize a workshop model as the main format for instructional time in order to keep whole group and lecture style lessons to a minimum and student engagement to a maximum
• Support development of student skills in demonstrating what they know in a creative manner involving hands on project work.
• Implement assessments for learning and checking for understanding strategies that actively engage students to become consistent workers, speakers, and thinkers in class
• Support students in their selection and reflection on student work for their portfolios
• Communicate respectfully with students, colleagues, families, and community members at all times by modeling, practicing and discussing respectful, unbiased and effective communication strategies

Compensation:
Salary range of: $48,00 to $53,00 for a yearly salary. Benefits include STRS and full family Health and Welfare benefits including vision and dental.
