The Improvement Journey
Every system is perfectly designed to get the results it gets. So let’s design and create better ones!
Continuous improvement provides us with a roadmap to transform our school systems so that all young people and adults learn and thrive. The journey of improving for equity is not linear, but the steps below support teams and organizations to get moving to get learning.
Focus & Engage
Choose a focus and engage a diverse team who can move it. What equity gaps emerge from our data? Who needs to be at the table?
Get Grounded
Get grounded in the problem and see the system. What is already known about the problem? How is the design of our system producing our current outcomes? How do students and other stakeholders experience the issue?
Map It Out
Chart a course for greater equity.
Who is getting results that we can learn from? What do we want to accomplish, for which students, by when? How are we going to get there and disrupt the status quo?
Iterate & Learn
Purposefully try change ideas and capture data to guide next steps. Is this change an improvement? How do we know? Where do we go from here?
Reflect & Consolidate
Document learning and identify key adaptations. What did we learn from our successes and failures? What do we recommend going forward?
Where did we get to?
Sustain & Spread
How do we make this the new normal?Who else should we engage in this work?
How do we embed it into our system?
