Engage in active, hands-on workshops to uncover complex educational challenges
Come see why HTH has been globally recognized as a leader in project-based learning for 20 years. HTH GSE offers a variety of interactive professional development workshops for educators interested in PBL. These workshops are held at High Tech High K-12 schools throughout San Diego county, or we can come to you. The Professional Learning program is led by experienced former HTH teachers who now design and facilitate for adult learners.
Register today for joyful and inspiring PD to evolve our classrooms into equitable learning spaces. There are monthly events that fit all budget sizes. Begin your PD experience with a free Virtual Tour to learn about HTH GSE and HTH Design Principles and listen to HTH student ambassadors. Continue with interactive online offerings such as HTH Project Unpacking, where HTH staff engage participants with their story of how they gained mastery of the PBL essentials. There are also ample in-person offerings to develop your skills during one-or multi-day events like Curated Visit, PBL Design Camp or PBL in Action. For those seeking PBL-focused workshops on specific dates and times of the year, keep reading below for information about Customized Professional Development.
PBL Design Camp
Join PBL Design Camp, an event that brings educators together to collaborate, share ideas and create new projects for students. In this three-day workshop, learn design strategies to build empathy for students and communities and generate ideas for transformative learning experiences. With HTH teachers and students, receive peer feedback and build a project prototype. The workshop includes six interactive sessions, activities that model SEL strategies in a PBL classroom, visits to High Tech High schools, and a culminating exhibition of participant’s PBL project plan.

Curated HTH School Visit
The HTH community welcomes visitors to observe their schools! A HTH GSE Professional Learning Coordinator curates full day visits throughout the school year at our four K-12 campuses in San Diego County. These in-person experiences are an immersive exploration of one of the four HTH K-12 campuses, project-based learning model, and the student experience. Start your day at 9:00am for an experience that includes a HTH 101 presentation, student-led tour of a school, classroom observations and catered lunch discussions with teachers and/or school leaders.
Virtual Tours
Reserve your space for a FREE online interactive presentation on Project-Based Learning model at High Tech High. Online visitors will be listening and asking questions to HTH Graduate School of Education faculty to learn more about the history of our schools and its implementation of the PBL model. In addition, a student panel of HTH Student Ambassadors will share their experiences at a PBL school. This interactive online experience will culminate with a Q&A session to learn more about PBL-focused professional development for educators in-person and online. Join us every first Wednesday of the month.

Project Unpacking
Project Unpackings are in-depth exploration of the essential components of a PBL project. Experienced PBL educators facilitate interactive storytelling of a past project at HTH. Each unpacking will focus deeply on two PBL essentials: inspiration, essential questions, ideation, draft/revision, critique, reflection, assessment, exhibition, community partners, and youth leadership. This two-hour workshop consists of moments of reflection, connection, and collaboration to practice envisioning components for their own project design. Project Unpackings welcome educators new to PBL and experienced curriculum designers interested in expanding methods to engage youth in deeper learning.
PBL In Action
Fall and Winter Institutes at HTH GSE have been re-imagined as PBL in Action professional development events. In this offering we collaborate with other organizations leading the way in equity, STEAM/STEM, literacy, arts integration, and so much more. By co-designing and facilitating with other progressive education leaders, we demonstrate how PBL is not an either/or but an inclusive learning model for all students. In these events we will engage participants to design PBL projects that are relevant to student’s lived experience and tap into a variety of modes of expression for education environments seeking to include creativity, joy, and play.
